Hi friends! I hope that you all have had a great week. This week has kicked my butt. I am so glad that tomorrow is Friday. Side note - how is it August 1st?!? Time is passing by so fast! I spent last weekend in Dallas with Carl and it was exactly what I needed. We have so much fun when we are together. We went out on Friday night and were lazy bums on Saturday. We didn’t do anything, but it was much needed for both of us. It was nice to just be together and be able to relax together. We lounged around all day and watch “Ridiculousness”, which is one of my favorite shows EVER because let’s be honest, it’s funny as hell watching people do stupid stuff and fall down. I never thought I’d find myself in a long distance relationship, but it works for us and I seriously love getting to visit Texas. It’s nice to finally do a little bit of traveling and see new places. I definitely was not ready to come home, but I am excited for my next adventure there. Life is so short and I am so grateful to be able to travel and experience new places. I’ve never known why so many people love Texas, until I started visiting there earlier this year. It’s such an amazing, beautiful place! Next Texas bucket list item = visit the Magnolia Silos in Waco, TX. Yes, I am a HUGE fan of Joanna and chip Gaines and Fixer Upper. I’ve legit seen every episode and I still watch the reruns today!
I kicked off this week with a new workout/fitness/wellness program, Faster Way to Fat Loss. I’m so excited, anxious, and nervous all at the same time. My friend and fellow blogger Malloree, is guiding me along this journey. It’s honestly just time for a drastic change and I’m excited to see what type of transformation I can make happen. I’ve had trainers before and they were great. I am giving FWTFL a go because I want to try something different. I’m still trying to find the “right” program for me and that’s okay.
A moment of real talk and rawness: I’ve let myself go. I’ve not been consistent in the gym in several months. I’ve drank too much, ate bad foods, let stress/anxiety/depression consume me. And I have the lowest self-esteem I’ve had in a very long time because of that. I take all responsibility for my actions (or lack there of). I’ve had multiple trainers and coaches in the past and they’ve been great. But me. I am the problem. At the end of each stressful day, I have physically exhausted myself by letting anxiety and stress take over my life. I’m truly ashamed of myself, but the good thing is that there is always time to start fresh and work towards your goals again. I’m thankful for this opportunity and I’m thankful for Malloree believing in me. I’m so excited for the next 6 weeks. I intend to give it my all and work on handling stress in a healthy way. With all of that said, I’m sharing a few ways that I’ve implemented managing stress and anxiety that have been successful for me.
Ashwaghanda - I take a dose of ashwaghanda normally 1-2 times per day. Ashwaghanda is an herbal supplement that helps alleviate stress and promotes relaxation. I usually always take it before bed at night, to calm myself down and “shut” my mind off. I always take it sometime earlier in the day if I’m feeling extra anxious, or if I am in an extra stressful situation. Someone recommended this to me well over a year ago and it truly does help me manage stress and anxiety.
Lavender essential oil - essential oils can work wonders for your health. I recommend doing your research and consulting with a physician if you have a specific medical condition, but I love using essential oils. Lavender essential oil, specifically, is known to promote calmness, relaxation, and sleep. If I’m having a restless night I use a drop or on my wrists, and also apply to the bottom of my feet (your feet are very porous, therefore they absorb essential oils quickly into the bloodstream). I also like to use frankincense and bergamot. My favorite essential oil brand is Eden’s Garden. It is very affordable and has been very effective for me.
Writing & journaling - So, it may sound silly, but one thing that really helps me is to write down how I’m feeling. It’s an outlet - it is literally like you are getting it out of you and venting to someone, without another person. I feel like it also helps me because I’m able to read back through what I’ve written down and analyze what I’m feeling the way that I am and what I can do to move through these feelings. I do not have an actual, but in reality, my blog is kind of like my journal. It’s very therapeutic and helps me get through the tougher times that life hands me.
Prayer - This is something that I cannot stress enough. The power of prayer is amazing. I have been through some rough times. I’ve dealt with mental illness for years, and it is not a bed of my roses my friends. You have good days and bad days, and some of those bad days make you feel inadequate, like a failure, and feel worthless. Granted, not all days are bad. Some are very good, some are completely neutral. Through all of those emotions and feelings, I always make time to pray each day. I try to say a prayer for the day before I even get out of bed, and I try to pray before going to bed at night. Sometimes, if I’m having a rough day at work, or just having an emotional time, I sit in my truck on my lunch break and work towards getting my mind right. That calls for prayer and a motivational podcast (“Just what you needed” by Amy Young is my current favorite). I try to remember that at the end of every day that tries me, all I can do is roll with the punches.
I’m super excited for the physical and mental transformation that is coming my way with FWTFL. They focus on progress not perfection. I think that should be a new motto for my life. I definitely plan on keeping you guys updated on my progress every couple of weeks, so be sure to stay tuned.
Here are a few essentials that I have learned (rather quickly) to stay stocked up on for FWTFL. Some of these items are also beneficial or more pertinent if you are someone who likes to workout t home versus at a gym.
This week has been such a learning experience for me (nutrition wise). I feel like with the FWTFL program, it is teaching me how to properly count my macros (I have NEVER counted macros before) and is teaching me how to eat. We are using My Fitness Pal and it’s super fun (I am a total nerd).
Happy Friday eve, friends! I hope you guys have a great weekend ahead!
